Movie nights are the best of fun all year round – but never more so than at Christmastime. When it’s chilly outside and you put on your Christmas jammies, surrounded by friends and family, there’s no better way to feel cozy and festive.
Here are some top tips for making the perfect Christmas movie night ever. Dig out the decorations, find a blanket, and let’s get started!
Ingredients for the Perfect Movie Night During the Holiday Season
If you get the right things in place, you can create the perfect movie night that you can repeat with your loved ones for years to come. Christmas is all about traditions, so why not start building your own well-loved tradition of a festive film night this year? You can perfect it and tweak things every year that follows, but here are some great festive foundations that will help see your first Christmas movie night running smoothly.
Wear Pajamas
Christmas is about cosiness, and what is cosier than a snug pair of jammies? Even better, a Christmassy pair of jammies! Whether it’s a classic pair with Christmass patterns all over them or a brightly-colored set with your favorite Christmas characters on the front, pick out the perfect set to complete the atmosphere.
If you’re getting together with a group, see if you can find matching sets for extra cuteness, or organize a PJ’s competition. Whoever finds the cutest or the most Christmassy pyjama set gets first dibs on the snacks!
The Best Movie Night Snacks
No movie night would be complete without snacks, and this evening needs some festive treats to get started. Try and get every member of the group to bring something different, so you can share the love – and try a whole bunch of new tasty snacks!
Sweet Treats
Chocolate is always a great Christmas staple: try to find big sharing blocks so everyone can have a square. To go with them, find some festive cookies to open up in the middle. You can often find festive flavors at this time of year, so go wild! If you’re having multiple movie nights, why not try a different flavor for every evening?
Once you’re chocolate-d out, let’s move on to candy. Candy canes and hard-boiled sweets are every child’s favorite in Christmas movies, so they’re good enough for us too! You can use them as decoration at first, with their fun, bright colors, but we won’t blame you if they end up being unwrapped early on!
Popcorn Bar
No one can watch a movie without a stash of popcorn. Take it one step further if you’re getting a group together – or even if you’re not! Get all the different types that you can find: butter, salt, sweet, mixed. If you want to make it extra cutesy, you can even get little retro cardboard popcorn boxes for everyone to help themselves to.
Pro Tip: get some Maltesers or other chocolatey treats and drop it in amongst the popcorn while it’s still warm. The chocolate will melt slightly and create the tastiest treat you’ve ever had!
Hot Chocolate Station
After all that food, you’re going to want something to wash it down with! But at Christmastime, we can’t just have regular hot chocolate. Pull out all the stops, with whipped cream, flakes, tiny marshmallows, and even mini candy canes! Top off your exquisite toppings with a dusting of hot chocolate powder, and you’ve made your very own hot chocolate extravaganza!
Festive Baking
If you’ve got a bit of extra time before your movie night, why not try and make some festive treats for yourself? Gingerbread is always a fun Christmas bake; it’s super easy, plus you can have a lot of fun with the decoration. If you’re feeling especially daring, you can even make a gingerbread house as decoration for your movie night. Just don’t be surprised if it comes crashing down when someone can’t resist trying a piece!
A Yule log is also a fun Christmas bake, and it’s big enough to share between a whole family. Dust the top off with icing sugar and it looks cute and snowy on your table as well.
